Ask us the basic stuff.

Nobody here will make you feel silly for asking what a phono stage is, or whether a turntable will work with the speakers you already own. Those are the two questions we are asked most, and they come from people who have owned records for thirty years.

If you have not bought yet

Tell us what is already in the room.

The single most useful thing you can say is what you already own. An amplifier, a soundbar, a pair of powered speakers, a Sonos, or nothing at all — that one sentence decides half the answer, and it is the one people leave out.

If the answer turns out to be that you do not need to buy anything from us, we will say that too.

  • What you already own, with the make and model if you know it
  • Roughly what you want to spend
  • Whether the records are new, or inherited and irreplaceable

If you have already ordered

Send the order number and what is happening.

Tell us what it is doing in your own words, and what you have already tried — it saves us both a round of emails, and more often than not we can sort it in one.

Two things get reported as faults far more often than they are one: a turntable that plays quieter than your other sources, and a low hum. Both take a minute to check, and both are in the FAQ.

  • Your order number, from the confirmation email
  • What happens, and when it happens
  • What you have already tried

Write to us

One message is usually enough.

The more you tell us up front, the fewer emails it takes. The two fields on the right are the ones that save the most time.

  1. We give you the honest answer, even when it costs us a sale.If your amplifier already has a better phono stage than ours, use yours. If your old deck only needs a £26 stylus rather than replacing, that is cheaper than buying from us, and it is what we will tell you.
  2. We say when we do not know. And we say when we expect to know. Where a manufacturer has not told us something, our page says so — we would rather leave a gap than fill it with a guess, and the same goes for an email.
  3. No question here is too basic. If you had to ask what a phono stage is, it is because nobody ever explained it properly. That is our problem, not yours, and it is the question we are asked most.

A person reads every one of these. If it is urgent, the phone is faster.
